Waste Station Finds Explosive Devices

From Staff Reports

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has been called in to help police investigate nine explosive devices found Wednesday at the county solid waste transfer station.

Six grenades and three homemade explosives were destroyed by the Spokane bomb squad, Coeur d’Alene police Capt. Carl Bergh said Thursday. No one was injured.

An employee working in the sorting station at the Kootenai County solid waste plant discovered the explosives Wednesday afternoon inside a black bag.

The three homemade devices were wrapped in black electrical tape and had powder inside, Bergh said. All of the explosives had green fuses attached to them, he said.
