Robber Hits Man In Face, Steals Bicycle

A man reported having a downtown scuffle with a robber Friday night.

The man told police that about 10:45 p.m. Friday he was leaving the Davenport Hotel, where he had attended an auction and purchased a bicycle.

He walked the bike to his car at First Avenue and Lincoln, then leaned the bike against a building while he unlocked his car.

He told police a man walked up, took the bike and started to ride away.

The victim grabbed the bicycle, and the thief struck him in the face, then rode off, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

The robber was described as a 20 years old, white, 5-foot-9 and about 150 pounds.

Police searched the area but found nothing, Cottam said.
