Microsoft, Able Settle Pirating Suit

Compiled From Wire Services

Software reseller Able Computer Systems Inc. has agreed to pay $50,000 to Microsoft Corp. to settle a lawsuit over pirated software, Microsoft said Wednesday.

Microsoft said the suit alleged that Able and two of its officials distributed counterfeit copies of Microsoft software, including Windows 95, Office 97 Professional Edition and various Microsoft hardware products, Dow Jones News Service reported.

Microsoft said the settlement requires that Able notify its customers that they may have received counterfeit Microsoft products, and should contact Able or Microsoft for possible replacement.
