‘Mermaid’ Comic Unearths Hidden Holiday Treasures

“The Little Mermaid” swam into theaters for only a few weeks this holiday season, but now you and your kids can get a daily dose of that red-headed sprite in The Spokesman-Review.

Ariel and all her undersea pals discover the true meaning of Christmas during these daily strips that begin today and run until Dec. 25, except on Sundays.

We don’t want to give too much away, but the story starts with the adventurous mermaid finding Christmas ornaments on a sunken ship. Soon, she’s decorating the underwater kingdom with tinsel and glass bulbs, while her sidekick Flounder schools his finned friends in the art of singing Christmas carols.

Anyone familiar with Disney’s brand of story-telling knows there’s got to be a bad guy in the story, and in this case the soggy grinch is Ursula, the Sea Witch. She tries to spoil everyone’s fun.

Like we said, we’re not going to reveal the ending to this special holiday strip. But Ariel handles the whole situation swimmingly.

The strip will run on the back page of IN Life Monday through Saturday.
