Boil-Water Order Remains At Bayview

From Staff Reports

Bayview residents have been living under a boil-water advisory for a week, ever since strains of E. coli and coliform bacteria were discovered in the town’s main well.

Water quality compliance officer Tony Davis of the Idaho Division of Environmental Quality said the earliest the advisory could be lifted would be Friday.

The Bayview Water and Sewer District has switched to a different well and is chlorinating the water.

But the district needs two clean samples before the advisory can be lifted, Davis said.

The E. coli found in the well is not the same as the bacteria found in bad meat, DEQ officials said, but its presence in the water could cause health problems.

The DEQ has no reports of anyone getting sick from drinking the contaminated water, Davis said.

“We’ve had some people who’ve called and complained of stomach ailments, but they developed prior to the contamination incident,” he said.
