Boys Say Man Shot At Them After Ohio Match Road Fight

From Staff Reports

Two Coeur d’Alene teenagers told sheriff’s deputies a man shot at them Wednesday over a traffic dispute near Hayden.

Paul Mueller, 18, told deputies he and a 17-year-old boy were driving on Ohio Match Road when they were passed by a mid-70s model black Dodge four-wheel drive pickup.

The pickup stopped suddenly, prompting Mueller to also stop because he thought it might be someone he knew. The driver, whom Mueller recognized as someone he had talked to Tuesday about an alleged traffic offense, accused Mueller of almost running him off the road, according to a deputy’s report.

The two argued briefly and the driver threatened to beat up Mueller and damage his truck, the report said. When Mueller began to drive away, the driver pulled a rifle from the cab and fired, the report said. The bullet missed Mueller’s truck and no one was injured.

Deputies searched the area but found no shell casing at the scene.
