Villeneuve In Limbo
Jacques Villeneuve will find out next week if he is still in the running for the Formula One title.
The International Automobile Federation said the appeal of his disqualification at the Japanese Grand Prix will be heard Oct. 21.
Villeneuve ignored a yellow flag during practice Saturday at the Japanese Grand Prix, just before he won the pole position in qualifying.
After his team appealed the decision, Villeneuve was reinstated to the pole.
If Villeneuve is stripped of Sunday’s points for the yellow-flag violation, Michael Schumacher would be ahead 78-77 in the race for the Formula One driving title.
Villeneuve could also be barred from racing in the final event of the season, the European Grand Prix in Jerez, Spain, Oct. 26.
