Crews Find Body At Post Street Dam

From Staff And Wire Reports

A crew cleaning a water-intake duct at Washington Water Power Co.’s Post Street dam discovered the body of a young woman Friday, Spokane police said.

The workers found the body about 10 a.m. as they were clearing debris from grates covering intake ducts that lead to the dam’s turbines.

The body was caught on one of the grates, police said.

The white woman’s name and age weren’t immediately known, said Dick Cottam, police spokesman. She could have been as young as 17 or as old as 35, Cottam said.

Officials from the coroner’s office retrieved the body, and an autopsy likely will be performed Monday.

Detectives said there was no obvious cause of death, and they don’t know if a crime was committed.

“At this point, it could be an accident or suicide. We just don’t know,” Cottam said.
