Change Batteries In Smoke Detectors
Area fire officials are reminding residents to change the batteries in their smoke detectors when they turn their clocks back this weekend.
Fire killed 3,640 people nationwide in 1995, said Kenny Gabriel, Coeur d’Alene fire public education coordinator. Many of those deaths were attributed to smoke detectors that were not working, he said.
Worn out or missing batteries are the most common reason given for a malfunctioning smoke detector, Gabriel said. He recommend changing smoke detector batteries once a year. , DataTimes
