Duchovny X-Pertly Plays Crazed Surgeon

Logan Graf Lake City

Move over George Clooney, David Duchovny is in town. In “Playing God” Duchovny portrays Dr. Eugene Sands, a famed L.A. surgeon who was stripped of his medical license after performing an operation while high on amphetamines.

Sands abandons his former life, only to find himself crossing paths with Raymond Blossom (Timothy Hutton), a ruthless criminal.

Raymond hires Eugene as his “gunshot doctor,” treating associates who can’t risk visiting a hospital. Lured deeper and deeper into the dangerous underworld, and growing treacherously close to Claire (Angelina Jolie), Raymond’s seductive girlfriend, Eugene faces his most challenging decision - to continue a life on the run or to face his demons and regain control of his destiny.

I really enjoyed “Playing God.” Duchovny was actually enjoyable in his role, playing his part as well as anybody. The last Duchovny movie I’ve seen that was this good was “Kalifornia.”

Hutton is fabulous as the drug dealer Blossom. Jolie is very believable in her part as Blossom’s love interest, and plays her part like a pro. I think we will be seeing much more of her in the future.

This film was one of the best I have seen in a long time.
