Rescue Diver’s Body Found

From Staff And Wire Reports

The body of a rescue diver from Spokane who vanished on a recreational dive with a friend was found Saturday morning about five miles downstream from where she vanished.

A fisherman spotted the body of Jodi L. Provo floating on the Columbia River, said Mike Brown of Columbia Basin Dive Rescue.

Provo, a volunteer Spokane County search and rescue diver, vanished a week earlier after swimming around a train bridge piling near the Pasco boat basin. She was heading for shore after discovering a hole in her dry suit, a friend swimming with her said.

The river is about 32 feet deep in the area where she vanished.

The Franklin County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy, and Provo’s diving gear will be sent to a laboratory for testing and analysis, Brown said.

Provo, 35, was a single mother with a 15-year-old daughter.
