Karrie Webb’s 5-under-par 67 Sunday gave her a one-shot victory over Annika Sorenstam at the $550,000 Safeco Classic.

The second-year pro from Australia finished with a 72-hole total of 16-under 272, and repeated as champion of an LPGA tour event for the first time in her short career.

Webb, who finished first last year, has $885,493 in winnings to $965,039 for Sorenstam, the 1995 money winner.

The top-10 finish was the 18th in 21 events this year for Webb, who had seven birdies and two bogeys.

Sorenstam finished with four birdies and a bogey to finish at 273. She missed a 3-foot putt on No. 9 for her bogey.

Patty Sheehan, a three-time winner of this tournament, led Sorenstam by three strokes and Webb by two entering the final round, but struggled with a 3-over 75 to finish third, five shots back.

Lancome Trophy

Mark O’Meara scrambled for pars over the last two holes to claim the title at the $1.1 million Lancome Trophy in Saint-Nom-La-Breteche, France, by a single shot over Sweden’s Jarmo Sandelin.

The American shot a 2-under-par 69 to finish 13-under at 271 and claim his sixth career overseas victory and first in Europe since 1987.

The victory was worth $184,000.

PGA

Loren Roberts shot a 64 to finish with a tournament record 18-under-par 266 total and win the CVS Charity Classic at Sutton, Mass., by one stroke over Bill Glasson.

Roberts’ total was one stroke better than that achieved by George Burns in 1985. Roberts, who finished tied for second in the Greater Milwaukee Open in his last outing, earned $216,000 for his first tour victory of the year and the fifth of his career.

Glasson, the third-round leader, shot a 68 Sunday. Peter Jacobsen, who was tied with Glasson for the lead after two rounds, birdied No. 18 to cap a 65 and was third at 268.

Senior Tour

Hale Irwin shot a 7-under-par 65 for a two-stroke victory in the PGA Senior Boone Valley Classic at Augusta, Mo., his seventh victory in 17 starts this year.

Irwin, who lives less than 30 miles from the suburban St. Louis course, finished with a tournament-record 16-under-par 200. He didn’t make a bogey during the 54-hole event and birdied four of his final six holes.

Gil Morgan, who shot 65, finished second at 14-under.
