Seahawks Feeling Pain Of Injuries Galloway, Warren Expected To Be On Sidelines When Seattle Entertains The Tennessee Oilers

Associated Press

Joey Galloway probably will miss a game for the first time in his NFL career when the Seattle Seahawks face Tennessee on Sunday.

And Chris Warren, another key starter in the Seahawks’ offense, is expected to be out, too.

“You’d love to have a bye week now,” coach Dennis Erickson said Monday. “The injuries are starting to mount up.”

Galloway, a wide receiver, who has played 37 consecutive games, sprained his right ankle after catching a 41-yard touchdown pass from Warren Moon in the first quarter of a 20-17 overtime loss in Kansas City. He did not return.

Warren, a three-time Pro Bowl running back and a four-time 1,000-yard rusher, pulled his left hamstring on a 28-yard run in the second half of Sunday’s game and did not return.

A day after the game, Galloway was on crutches and Warren walked gingerly in the team’s locker room.

If Galloway misses the game, Brian Blades will replace him. If Warren is out, Lamar Smith will start.

“Hopefully, he’s back after the bye,” Erickson said of Galloway, referring to Seattle’s bye week Oct. 12.

Galloway, the eighth pick in the 1995 draft, has started every game of his career. He has 19 receptions for 323 yards and two touchdowns in his third season.

Mike Pritchard, Seattle’s other starting wide receiver, was wearing an elastic wrap around his right leg. He broke the bursa sac in his knee when he hit the artificial turf in the Kingdome against San Diego two weeks ago.

“I played last week with it and I’ll play this week with it,” said Pritchard, who has become Moon’s favorite target with 22 catches for 318 yards and a touchdown. “I’m a starter for a reason.”

Warren has gotten off to a slow start in his eighth season with Seattle. Smith has outrushed him 226 yards to 225 and missing a game won’t help.

The Seahawks played the Kansas City game without three starters - defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy (knee), defensive end Phillip Daniels (knee) and offensive tackle Walter Jones (ankle).

Daniels is out 3-6 weeks. Jones and Kennedy are questionable this week, which means it’s 50-50 whether they will be ready for Tennessee.

“This week is a real critical game for us,” Erickson said. “I like this football team. We have a chance to be good. We have a lot of games left and there’s nobody on our schedule left that we can’t beat.”

The Seahawks lost in K.C. on Pete Stoyanovich’s 41-yard field goal late in overtime.

“There’s so many ‘what ifs’ in a game like that,” Erickson said. “So you can ‘what if’ yourself forever.”
