After Big Victory, Gonzaga Falls To Usf

Two days after upsetting conference-leading Santa Clara and ending a seven-game losing streak, the Gonzaga University women’s basketball team lost to San Francisco 56-53 Saturday at Martin Centre.

Lydia Ledgerwood led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Staci Andrews added 13 and Holly Turner 10.

San Francisco 56, Gonzaga 53

At McMinnville, Ore., Linfield won a key matchup in the battle for the fourth and final playoff spot in the NCIC.

Andrea Sherer scored 18 points and Star Olson 11 for the Pirates.

Whitworth made 8 of 18 free throws and Linfield connected on 19 of 24.

Courtney Horner scored 21 points and Tracy Ford added 20 for Eastern Washington, but the Eagles fell to host Sacramento State in a Big Sky game.

EWU led by as many as nine points, the last time with 8:25 remaining in the first half. But the Hornets took control, thanks to a 17-4 run to finish the half.

Wenatchee Valley 67, CCS 61

Shelley Massingale, Alana Carlander and Kelli Pilkington combined to score all but three of the Sasquatch’s points as Community Colleges of Spokane suffered a key loss in the East Division of the NWAACC.

Visiting Wenatchee Valley took over first place in the division at 7-1, one game ahead of 6-2 CCS.

Massingale led the Sasquatch with 21 points. Carlander scored 20 and Pilkington 17.

Spokane led 55-49 with 6 minutes remaining.

North Idaho 85, Snow 75 (OT)

North Idaho College had to work hard to gain a split of its Scenic West women’s basketball road weekend, going into overtime before defeating Snow College at Ephraim, Utah.

With NIC trailing by a point in the final 10 seconds, Becki Huddle made 1 of 2 free-throw attempts to tie the game. In the extra period, the Cardinals fell behind by three before Alisha Nater made a key bucket and Tammy Goyne followed with back-to-back 3-pointers.

Goyne had the touch throughout the game, making 4 of 5 3-pointers and 9 of 11 overall on the way to 26 points.

NIC’s victory follows Friday’s 81-60 loss at Dixie.
