Hepton Helps Portland Women Rip Gu

Former Central Valley High standout Kristin Hepton scored 16 points and collected 10 rebounds, and three of her Portland teammates also scored in double figures Wednesday as the Pilots defeated Gonzaga 79-50 in a West Coast Conference women’s basketball game at Martin Centre.

After leading by four (33-29) at halftime, Portland (16-7, 7-4 WCC) blitzed the Bulldogs (10-13, 2-9) with a 46-21 advantage in the second half. The Pilots shot 60 percent in the second half, 50 for the game, compared with Gonzaga’s percentages of 26 and 28.

Reserve Sydney Perno led GU with 16 points.

Gonzaga’s starters made 3 of 28 from the field. The starting guards, Lydia Ledgerwood and Sandy Gere, had seven turnovers apiece.

The teams play at Portland on Saturday.
