Selkirk, St. George’s Reach District Tourney

South Division rivals Selkirk and St. George’s won Friday to clinch the Panorama League’s first two berths to the District 7-B tournament.

Selkirk edged Wellpinit 62-58 and St. George’s pulled away from Northport 54-35 in Panorama tournament semifinals. Selkirk and St. George’s meet at 6 p.m. Friday in Colville in the tourney title game, for the top two seeds to the Feb. 23-28 district tourney.

St. George’s 54, Northport 35 Wenchi Liu hit three 3-pointers while scoring 25 and added five assists, and the fourth-ranked Dragons (18-2) won their fifth straight and stopped the six-game winning streak of the visiting Mustangs (16-6).

Katie DePonty added nine rebounds for St. George’s, which had 17 steals and a meager three turnovers. Northport was limited to four points in the first 12 minutes.

The Mustangs host a winner-to-district game at 6 p.m. Monday against Republic.

Molly Carlson had 14 rebounds and hit 5 of 6 free throws as the seventh-ranked Rangers (19-3) won their seventh straight and avenged a league-season loss to the Redskins (17-4).

Selkirk’s Darby Pettis scored all seven of her points in the second quarter, when the Rangers began a rally. Selkirk outscored the Redskins 11-5 from the free-throw line.

Miranda Payne had 12 rebounds for Wellpinit, which hosts Northwest Christian at 6 p.m. Monday in a winner-to-district game.

Freshman Amanda Merrit scored nine of her career-high 23 in the fourth quarter as the Tigers (11-11) eliminated the visiting Panthers (2-19).

Melissa Young added nine rebounds, six steals and six assists for Republic. The Tigers expect leading scorer Lucy Wilson (ankle sprain) to return Monday after missing three consecutive games.

Katie Coles had nine rebounds and five steals as the third-seeded Vikings (13-8) eliminated the No. 6 Wildcats (3-19) at Endicott to clinch a berth to the District 9-B tourney.

Jenny Iverson added five steals for Gar-Pal, which plays second-seeded Tekoa-Oakesdale (18-2) at 2:30 p.m. today in a semifinal. T-O swept the Vikings during the league season.

Colton had 43 turnovers and shot 25 percent from the floor.

Kim Colyar added seven steals for SJE, which meets Whitman champion LaCrosse-Washtucna (13-7) at 5:30 p.m. today in the other semi. SJE and L-W split this year, the lone Whitman loss for L-W.

Angie Bruce had six rebounds, and Jenny Dale and Sara Blank four steals apiece for Rosalia.
