‘Amistad’ Is History As Entertainment

Despite all the controversy surrounding his film “Amistad,” Steven Spielberg has reason to be proud. For one, he never forsakes the characters, the imprisoned slaves, who inspired the story. Two, he manages to point out America’s flaws while reaffirming the values upon which the country was founded. Finally, he made an entertaining story out of an obscure episode of history.
