Boys prep basketball

The more Wilbur-Creston tried to lose Friday’s game, the more Ritzville wouldn’t let them.

Bryan Marchand made three 3-pointers in the second half, and Mike Samuels and Sorrell Katich had big baskets in overtime as W-C (5-4, 4-1) defeated host Ritzville 54-50 in a Bi-County League game that featured 52 turnovers.

Dan Duff of Ritzville (3-5, 2-3) hit two free throws with 1 minute left in regulation for a tie at 45. W-C had two turnovers down the stretch, and missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 4 seconds left.

W-C also had six turnovers in OT.

The Warriors (6-3, 5-0) remained atop the West Division after coming alive in the fourth quarter to defeat the Patriots (5-4, 1-4) at Edwall.

Joe Bell scored 22 for Christian Heritage, which led 31-27 after shooting 7 of 14 from the floor in the second quarter. Starter Adam Bogle fouled out for the Patriots, who finished with 39 percent field-goal shooting.

Jim Huffine and Sheridan Pyeatt combined to make 17 of 18 free throws, guiding the team’s 21-for-24 effort, as the visiting Rangers (8-1, 5-0) defeated the Dragons (6-3, 4-1) to break a first-place tie in the South Division.

Both teams shot less than 44 percent from the field, but Selkirk’s 10-for-12 free-throw shooting in the second half provided the difference. Tom DePonty of St. George’s had six rebounds.
