Suspects Show Up In Stolen Car

Associated Press

Two suspected car thieves gave police a lot of help when they showed up to answer questions in a stolen car.

Authorities wanted to talk to Scott Olmsted and Anthony Siebenthal about a Honda Civic taken from a car lot earlier in the week and asked them to come down to the station, Detective Brent Guymon said.

They showed up in a purple 1997 Plymouth Neon and detectives ran a check on the car’s license plate, which had been issued for a Ford Tempo. Then they checked the vehicle identification number, which matched a Neon that was totaled in a Utah accident and bought by an Idaho Falls salvage yard.

The Neon the 26-year-old men drove to the station, it turns out, had been stolen from a local car dealer.

That was enough to prompt detectives to visit Olmsted’s home, where they found the Honda they had been looking for. Guymon said a 1996 BMW 538i stolen from a dealer also was parked nearby.
