Beware Of Traffic Pattern Changes No One But Aryan Marchers To Be Allowed On Sherman

People coming to the Lake City this morning likely will want to avoid trying to use Northwest Boulevard to access downtown attractions.

Police were to begin towing cars left along Sherman Avenue, from the 100 block through the 600 block, at 6 a.m. They will close Sherman Avenue at 9 a.m.

The public parking lot at Independence Point will be closed to accommodate the Aryan Nations’ marchers. The parking lot at the Museum of North Idaho also will be closed.

People from out of town who want to reach Tubbs Hill, the Third Street boat ramp, the McEuen Field area or other downtown areas should take Interstate 90 to the 15th Street exit. They then should travel south on 15th Street to Mullan Avenue and then take Mullan Avenue west, police say.

One block of Front Avenue, between Sixth Street and Seventh Street, will be closed briefly sometime between 10 a.m. and noon. That will be done only as the parade circles the block and returns to Sherman Avenue.

Police will be out in force. Officers from Coeur d’Alene, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department, the Idaho State Police and the State Police Crowd Intervention Team will be on hand. More than 120 law enforcement officers are expected.

They will not allow anyone but the Aryan marchers on Sherman during the event. And police have made it clear that anyone who starts any trouble will immediately be arrested and taken to jail.

Meanwhile, human rights activists say they will easily raise more than $1,000 for every minute the Aryans march. As of noon Friday, the Kootenai County Human Rights Task Force had pledges totaling $961.85 per minute.
