Juggling Your Fruit

Ripening lemons and healthy foliage sprout from the stump of an old orange tree in Irvine, Calif. Several years ago, lemon twigs were grafted to the the sawn-off trunk. The area’s top citrus crop for a century, oranges declined by 70 percent last year and dropped behind lemons, which have enjoyed growing demand for 30 years.
