Seahawks Find Help For Watters By Signing Habib

The Seattle Seahawks needed an offensive lineman. So owner Paul Allen opened his wallet again on Friday and shelled out a $2.5 million signing bonus to land 10-year veteran Brian Habib.

Allen lured the 6-foot-7, 293-pound Habib from Denver after he helped the Broncos defeat Green Bay 31-24 in the Super Bowl.

The deal was worth more than $6 million, Habib’s agent said.

Habib, 33, a former University of Washington player from Ellensburg, agreed to a three-year contract, the Seahawks announced.

“It’s good to be back home. It’s always something I’ve had in the back of my mind,” Habib said.

In Seattle, Habib will be blocking for another prize unrestricted free agent, running back Ricky Watters, who agreed to a four-year contract for $13 million earlier this week.

Packers lose Taylor, Robinson The San Diego Chargers signed unrestricted free-agent guard Aaron Taylor to a four-year contract.

Taylor, 25, had spent his four-year career with the Green Bay Packers. Terms were not disclosed.

The Packers also lost free safety Eugene Robinson. Robinson, 34, who spent the past two seasons in Green Bay, signed a two-year, $3.55 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons. The two-time Pro Bowler spent the first 11 years of his career with the Seahawks.

Clyde Simmons, who ranks 11th in career sacks, was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars who signed pass-rush specialist Bryce Paup a month ago… . San Francisco 49ers free-agent fullback William Floyd signed a four-year, $6.2 million contract with the Carolina Panthers… . Andre Hastings, an unrestricted free-agent, reached agreement on a three-year contract to remain with the New Orleans Saints… . The St. Louis Rams signed former Seahawks punter Rick Tuten, a 10-year veteran.
