By Mike Crapo It’s been my honor to serve as a U.S. representative. I’m now working to earn your vote to serve as Idaho’s U.S. senator. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I helped craft the Farm Bill, which was instrumental in providing more market-oriented reforms to the agriculture industry and removing significant government involvement in farm policy. My assignments on Commerce and Resources committees allow me to advocate Idaho’s principles and values and protect our lifestyle. I oppose legislation to deregulate the energy industry. It has the potential to devastate our water-based economy and dramatically increase energy costs. On the Resources Committee, I have reviewed federally mandated or imposed regulations on Idahoans who work in industries which use public lands. I maintain an open-door policy, and it is important to me to seek out all parties interested in a particular issue. While all may not agree on one issue, common ground can be reached through consensus, ultimately resulting in better solutions. I advocate effective, honest and common-sense solutions and worked to demonstrate integrity in that process. I have worked for congressional reform, a balanced budget, lower taxes and welfare reform. I also have honored the 10th Amendment by returning power to the people and states, reduction in centralization of power by the federal government, and effectively represented the values and principles of the people of Idaho. If elected to the Senate to represent you, I will continue to work aggressively for the same goals.
