Gonzaga University Honors Va Lena Curran

Va Lena Curran, president of Gonzaga University’s board of advisors, was the only Inland Northwest resident to receive a GU Distinguished Alumni Merit Award last December.

Curran was the sole woman to graduate from GU’s School of Law, Class of 1958, and became one of the area’s few women attorneys at the time.

Lisa Bermel, a senior at Mead High School, received an Academic Achievement Scholarship to attend Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, next year.

Bermel is the daughter of Jim and Carol Dalton, Colbert.

Loyd Willaford, Spokane, graduated from the University of Oregon with a master’s degree in history.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Jeannine Webb graduated from the utilities systems apprentice course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.

Webb is the daughter of Tom Webb, Spokane, and Trena Jenkins, Auburn, Calif.

Joshua Rowe, a member of Boy Scout Troop 438, has earned his Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded in Boy Scouts of America.

For his Eagle project, Rowe built and installed two picnic tables for faculty use at Blake Elementary.

Rowe, a sophomore at Central Valley High School, is the son of John and Geri Rowe, Spokane.

Air Force Airmen Adam Collins and Patrick Nadran graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Collins, son of Diane and Edwin Collins Jr., Medical Lake, is a 1996 graduate of Cheney High School.

Nadran, a 1998 graduate of Rogers High School, is the son of Tom and Bonney Nadran, Spokane.

Army Pvt. Ian Surginer graduated from One Station Unit Training at the U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Surginer, son of Lyssa Gooch, Spokane, is a 1998 graduate of Rogers High School.

Army Sgt. Howard D. Aune graduated from the Army Primary Leadership Development Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

Aune, stepson of Frances Aune, Elk, is a 1988 graduate of Riverside High School.
