BENEWAH COUNTY St. Maries

St. Maries High School has started its search for a counselor. The position became available when Diane Magone recently submitted her resignation. Magone served as counselor for three years.

BONNER COUNTY Sandpoint

The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce is offering two internship positions for students. Interns will work 20 hours a week at the Chamber’s Visitor Information Center and 20 hours working under the direction of chamber marketing and public relations, event coordination and administration staff. BOUNDARY COUNTY Bonners Ferry

The Boundary County Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the main courtroom of the Boundary County Courthouse. The January meeting was canceled due to the delay in the adoption of the Boundary County Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance and the zoning map. All business scheduled for the January meeting will be discussed at Thursday’s meeting.

KOOTENAI COUNTY Spirit Lake

The Spirit Lake Planning & Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing March 3 to discuss proposed revisions to the city’s flood-plain ordinance. The changes are mostly an update in language to modernize the ordinance in accordance with current laws. Copies of the ordinance are available at City Hall. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Spirit Lake Community Center.

LATAH COUNTY Moscow

The work of Kate and Sue McBeth, sisters who served as missionaries and teachers for the Nez Perce people during the late 19th century, is featured on a new Web site offered by the University of Idaho library. The site features the diary and journal entries of Kate McBeth, letters written by the sisters, maps drawn during the Nez Perce War, an 1890 atlas and Sue McBeth’s map of Christian homes on the Nez Perce reservation. SHOSHONE COUNTY Wallace

The Wallace Public Library will be closed until Feb. 22 for the completion of restoration work to the interior of the historic building. Work on the building exterior will begin in the spring when weather permits. The final phase of the project will include landscaping as well as new sidewalks.

WASHINGTON

PEND OREILLE COUNTY Newport

With the county at an economic development crossroads, the Economic Development Citizens Advisory Committee has developed a plan. First, the committee will promote coordinated leadership among communities. The group also hopes to provide education and training for job seekers and increase job opportunities by promoting new business. The final goal is to develop a business-friendly infrastructure.

SPOKANE COUNTY Spokane

The regular Spokane City Council meeting is canceled today. Instead, the council will spend the day in a retreat at Finch Arboretum.

The retreat begins at 8:30 a.m. in the administration building, 3404 W. Woodland Blvd.

Council members plan to talk about a number of issues, including council goals and priorities, human services, comprehensive and neighborhood planning, and growth management.

The council is also expected to discuss hiring an independent auditor, the city manager’s job review and capital improvements including streets and parks.

The retreat will be led by Terry Reed, an assistant Spokane fire chief. He has facilitated council retreats in the past.

The next regular City Council meeting will be held Feb. 22.

MONTANA

LINCOLN COUNTY Libby

Stimson Lumber is facing $130,500 in fines from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration after an investigation into a fatal accident last August. Stimson has arranged to meet with OSHA officials in Billings on Thursday to discuss 16 alleged violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Chris Barton, 36, was killed Aug. 6 while operating a plywood stacking machine at the mill.
