Fire Started In Garage Nearly Destroys Home

Fire heavily damaged a house in northern Spokane County early Friday, firefighters said.

The blaze apparently broke out about 12:15 a.m. in the garage of a home in the 12100 block of East Wedgewood Court, said Capt. Doug Bleeker of county Fire District 9.

No one was home at the time of the fire, Bleeker said. The blaze was reported by neighbors.

By the time firefighters arrived, flames had spread to the main house. District 9 crews then requested help from the Valley and Millwood fire departments.

Firefighters were on scene for nearly five hours battling the flames and investigating the cause, which is still undetermined.

“I’d say 60 to 70 percent of the structure was destroyed,” Bleeker said.

No firefighters were injured.
