Gregory Horton, pastor of St. John the Baptist Antiochian Orthodox Church, 4640 E. 20th, Post Falls.

Background: Horton, 38, was ordained in 1987 after graduating from St. Tikhon Seminary in South Cannaan, Pa. He then served seven years at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church near Allentown, Pa., before coming to St. John’s three years ago.

Horton will be given the honorary title of archpriest in April during a ceremony led by Bishop JOSEPH.

Horton plays the tuba in the North Idaho College Symphonic Band. He teaches music at the Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene, where he has also served on the board of trustees for the past year.

He also teaches mathematics and religion at the Forerunners Academy for homeschooled students at St. John’s.

Personal: Horton and his wife, Cindy, have been married for 15 years. According to Antiochian Orthodox tradition, she is referred to as Matushka, or little mother. They have four children: Tatiana, 12; Max, 10; Sebastian, 9; and Benjamin, 5.
