Police Arrest Escapee And Mother At Home

Spokane police arrested a man wanted for escape, and also arrested his mother after she denied he was at her house.

On Friday morning, police obtained a warrant and searched the home of Roberta J. VanGrinbergen, who lives in the 2000 block of West Mallon Avenue.

Several people there said Roberta VanGrinbergen and her son Albert J. VanGrinbergen were not home, but police soon found Roberta inside.

Though she denied her son was home, police found Albert VanGrinbergen in a crawl space on the second floor. He refused to come out until police brought a K-9 into the house.

Albert VanGrinbergen has 10 convictions including burglary, two assaults, possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was taken to jail on suspicion of two outstanding warrants.

Roberta J. VanGrinbergen was booked on suspicion of second-degree rendering criminal assistance. She has 13 convictions, including possession of stolen property.<
