Ruen’S Key Rebound Helps Post Falls Keep Slim Lead In Border

Post Falls increased its narrow lead in the Border League, but by a narrow margin.

Janelle Ruen’s 11th rebound was her biggest, allowing the Trojans to edge visiting Coeur d’Alene 41-39 on Saturday night.

CdA’s Shaylia Davis was fouled in the act of shooting, as PF led 40-38 with 3 seconds left. Davis hit the first free throw for her 21st point, but missed the second and the rebound was controlled by Ruen.

Ruen passed to Megan Billetz, who was fouled and hit her first free-throw attempt for the final margin.

PF (8-2 league) leads Moscow (7-2) by one-half game.

Courtney Goetz scored nine during an 18-2 run in the second half as the visiting Bears defeated the Blackhawks.

Kara Weitman hit three of her four 3-pointers in the third quarter to help Cheney pull within four points. Goetz finished 7 of 10 from the field.

The visiting Spartans opened with a halfcourt press and shot 22 for 37 from the floor to defeat the Lumberjacks and retain first place.

Shandra Guthrie of the Spartans came off the bench to hit 3 of 4 from the floor and 5 of 6 from the line. Lumberjacks reserve Alaina Hammons hit two 3-pointers in the second half.

Adam Busch intercepted an inbounds pass and swished a late 3-pointer as the visiting Bears defeated the Blackhawks.

Moscow also had a steal and layup to tie the game with 20 seconds left. Cheney, which finished with 31 turnovers, played without three starters who were out for disciplinary reasons.

Andy Rice had 18 rebounds and four blocked shots as the Badgers defeated the Spartans at Coeur d’Alene.

BF’s Todd Bateman added four assists. The Badgers held on after Timberline pulled within three points in the fourth quarter.
