Anita Hoffman, who helped then-husband Abbie Hoffman plot the most memorable pranks of the Yippie movement and later helped him hide for years from the FBI, died of breast cancer Dec. 27. She was 56.

Retired Marine Col. William A. “Ironman” Lee, one of the most decorated Marines in history, died Dec. 27 of cancer. He was 98.

Actor-director Don Taylor, who played the role of Elizabeth Taylor’s bridegroom in “Father of the Bride” and directed “The Island of Dr. Moreau,” died Tuesday of heart failure. He was 78.

Catherine Campbell Hearst, the socialite mother of Patricia Hearst , died Wednesday at UCLA Medical Center after a stroke. She was 81.

Jean-Claude Forest, who created the sultry sci-fi comic strip character Barbarella and designed sets for the ‘60s cult movie, died Wednesday. He was 68.

MILESTONE

Simon Wiesenthal, the world’s most prominent Nazi hunter, celebrated his 90th birthday Thursday in Vienna. Wiesenthal survived 12 Nazi concentration camps before American troops freed him.

This week Monday: Jesse Ventura sworn in as Minnesota governor. Wednesday: Members of the Senate and House are sworn in for the 106th Congress. Thursday: Senate impeachment proceedings scheduled to begin. Friday: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honors Elvis.
