Riverside High Graduate To Attend Culinary School

Amanda M. Merdanian, a 1998 graduate of Riverside High School, received numerous scholarships and grants to attend The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y.

She received a $1,000 Cream of the Crop Scholarship, a $500 Inland Northwest Candlelighters Scholarship, a $1,000 Riverside Community Business Scholarship, a $350 Elk Fire Department Scholarship and a $15,000 grant from The Culinary Institute of America.

Merdanian is the daughter of Jim and Terri Nelson, Chattaroy.

Krista Opela, 14, was named 1998 Young Miss of Washington at last summer’s Distinguished Youth of Washington Scholarship and Recognition Program.

Opela, selected from a field of 32 participants statewide, received a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond and $250 for her school.

She is the daughter of Dexter and Samantha Opela, Spokane.

Scott Kramer, a senior at Odessa High School, was one of 20 students statewide to receive the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award for achievements in athletics, academics and community service.

Kramer received a medal at a school pep assembly in recognition of his achievement.

Army National Guardsman Private 2nd Class Levi S. Stang graduated from basic training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Stang, a senior at Shadle Park High School, is the son of Scot and Regie Stang of Spokane.
