No Dicaprio Fans

A group of Thai villagers plan to sue 20th Century Fox, saying producers damaged a protected beach near their homes to film the latest Leonardo DiCaprio movie. Villagers say the producers of the film “The Beach” removed natural vegetation and replaced them with coconut trees on Maya Beach and damaged coral reefs in the area. Maya Beach is a nature preserve on the tiny island of Phi Phi in the Straits of Malacca. The island’s inhabitants say laws protecting the preserve are being violated. Niyom Piewdee, head of the village, and Apinan Paongern, who heads the provincial environmental committee, announced Monday that they would sue the U.S. studio and its Thai representative.
