Bailey, Burgess Team Up To Boost Ewu To Big Victory
For the second time in less than three weeks Allie Bailey sank the game-winner for the Eastern Washington women’s basketball team.
Bailey’s latest dagger lifted the Eagles to a 59-57 victory Thursday over defending conference co-champion Northern Arizona in a Big Sky game at Reese Court.
“It is probably the biggest win for this program in quite a few years,” EWU coach Jocelyn Pfeifer said.
Bailey hit a game-winner with 1 second left on Dec. 20 against Gonzaga. But the opportunity to win it Thursday with 13 seconds left was in large part due to the work of center Lyndy Burgess, who scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Eastern (5-7, 2-0 Big Sky) trailed 37-29 at halftime. The Eagles scored the first six points of the second half, took their first lead of the game at 42-41 with 13:04 remaining and led by eight, 57-49, with 4:20 left.
