Group Organizes Y2K Information Center

Inland Northwest residents now have a place to turn for information about how to prepare for possible disruptions caused by the Year 2000 computer bug.

Spokane’s Health Improvement Partnership, a nonprofit organization, has formed the Spokane Y2K Information Center, officials said Wednesday.

The center has installed a hotline at 742-3646 and a World Wide Web site at http://y2k.hipspokane.org.

The information is free.

“Helping to enhance community preparedness for Y2K has many benefits,” executive director Dan Baumgarten said. “It will help our community be more resilient, even if nothing happens on Jan. 1, 2000.”

HIP is a nonprofit organization formed in 1994 by the city’s medical community to improve Spokane largely outside traditional health care.
