Albert M. Arnold Spokane

Albert M. Arnold will celebrate his 100th birthday with an open house at Fairwood Village Retirement Resort from 1 to 3 p.m. today. The event is hosted by the North Hill Masonic Lodge and Arnold’s stepdaughter, Sue, and her husband, Chuck Heeren.

Arnold, who was born Jan. 9, 1899, in Dearborn, Mo., moved to Seattle in 1918 to work in the shipyards. He later went to work for Liggett and Meyers, which transferred him to Spokane in 1949. He retired from that company as a sales manager in 1955.

He and Florence Martenson married in 1921; she died in 1968. Three years later, he married Hettie Connolly, who died in 1994.

Arnold attributes his longevity to “good genes.”
