Nathan Fast scored 20 points as Santa Clara defeated visiting Saint Mary’s.

Darrell Teat had 16 points and Delano D’Oyen added 12 points as the Broncos snapped a three-game losing streak. Eric Schraeder scored 18 points to lead the Gaels, who have lost four in a row.

Santa Clara opened the second half with a 14-5 run, tying the score at 35 on a 3-pointer by D’Oyen, then taking a one-point lead when Fast made 1 of 2 free throws with 15:10 remaining in the game.

Saint Mary’s responded by scoring the next seven points to regain the lead. Allocco’s two free throws put the Gaels up 37-36 with just under 15 minutes left.

The Broncos rallied again, taking a two-point edge with just more than 9 minutes to play on an Alex Lopez slam dunk. The teams struggled with the lead until Teat connected on two consecutive jumpers, one a 3-pointer, to give the Broncos a 53-48 lead with 4:59 left in the game.

Ryan Williams scored 10 of his 16 points in a runaway second half, and visiting San Diego held San Francisco to a season low in points to get the win.

The Toreros won their fourth straight game and are off to their best start since 1986-87. The Dons, who have dropped seven of their last eight games, shot just 28 percent (14 of 50) for the game while being outrebounded 42-25.

San Francisco dug an early hole, letting San Diego frolic through a 17-1 run to fall behind 17-3 in the first 8 minutes.
