118,000 Ballots To Be Mailed Wednesday

City voters won’t have to leave the comfort of home to cast their ballot in the Feb. 2 election.

Some 118,000 ballots will be mailed out beginning Wednesday, said Tom Wilbur, Spokane County elections supervisor.

Voters will be asked to decide two issues.

One asks whether the city should take over operation of the municipal court, now run jointly with Spokane County.

The other asks voters about selling 30 acres of undeveloped north Spokane park property in order to raise money to build a sports complex next to Joe Albi Stadium, also on the North Side.

The city expects to save at least $25,000 by going the mail-in route. The special election will cost the city about $98,000.

Ballots need to be postmarked by Feb. 2.

The last time a mail-in ballot was used was in June 1997 when the issue was state support for the Seahawks stadium.
