Charles Gosa paired 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead New Mexico State’s 60-46 win over visiting Long Beach State.
The Aggies had an 18-4 run early in the second half to open an 18-point lead, only to see the 49ers draw within 50-42 with 3:19 to play. But 8-of-10 free-throw shooting in the closing minutes allowed New Mexico State to hold on.
Roberto Bergersen, the nation’s second-leading scorer, scored 26 points and Boise State hit 31 of 40 free-throw attempts in its 73-61 home win over UC Irvine.
Tony Brown scored 15 points to lead seven Utah State players in double figures as the Aggies defeated visiting Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 97-73. The Aggies have won 19 straight conference games and 32 of their last 33 at home.
B.J. Bunton scored 23 points, including an inadvertent basket with 20 seconds left, as UC Santa Barbara won 66-64 at Nevada.
UC Santa Barbara won despite going scoreless over a 5:40 span before Bunton’s final shot, a deflection that caromed into the basket.
Nevada has lost five straight for the first time since a 10-game streak in 1993. The loss also ended a 16-game regular-season home winning streak.
