Lakeland High Names Students Of The Month

Lakeland High School has selected the Students of the Month for December.

Students are chosen based on a willingness to follow instructions, positive attitude, demonstrating concern for others, an interest in studies, activity involvement and the ability to accept and benefit from criticism. Honorees and their grade-levels are listed.

Tema Bassett, a senior and daughter of Richard and Jacqueline Bassett, enjoys playing piano, running and fishing.

Daron Stutheit, son of Marty and Teena Stutheit, enjoys camping, snowboarding, fishing, soccer and baseball.

Casey Phelps, son of Lee and Patricia Phelps, enjoys fly-fishing, football and wrestling.

Army Pvt. Michael F. Goularte Jr., son of Michael and Connie Goularte of Coeur d’Alene, has graduated from one station unit training at the Army Infantry School in Columbus, Ga.

Goularte received training in drill and ceremonies, physical fitness, human relations, combat skills, weapons qualifications, combat operations, survival during a nuclear, biological or chemical attack, and light weapons and indirect-fire crewman duties to a rifle or mortar squad.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Orin J. Richardson, a security forces trainer with the 721st Security Forces Squadron at Cheyenne Mountain Air Station, Colo., and son of Ramona Buehelr of Pinehurst, Idaho, has participated in the Air Force’s annual Defender Challenge competition at the Security Forces Center, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

The Olympic-style challenge features security forces teams from all Air Force major commands, the Canadian Forces Air Command and the United Kingdom Royal Air Force Regiment competing in five events, including fitness, handgun, combat rifle, combat weapons and Sadler Challenges. One individual from each team with the best time in the fitness challenge then competes in the Air Force Chief of Staff challenge. The winner receives a gold medallion and custom-designed leather jacket.
