Soph Leads CV To Win
Central Valley sophomore Karlee Poirier had never won a Greater Spokane League gymnastics event, much less an all-around competition.
But Poirier put on a show Thursday at Shadle Park.
She won the uneven bars, floor exercise and all-around to guide the Bears (14-2) to a victory in a four-way meet featuring three of the league’s top four teams.
Poirier scored 9.05 on the floor and 8.55 on the bars on her way to 34.35 points.
Runner-up Leah Borg, a Shadle freshman, scored 34.25 and won the balance beam at 9.1.
Emily Roberts, typically CV’s all-around champion, won the vault (8.8) and placed second on the beam. She didn’t figure into the all-around.
CV’s score of 167.15 easily outdistanced the 158.6 of runner-up University (12-5). Shadle (10-8) was third, Rogers (2-15) fourth.
At North Central, senior Gail Larsen won every event on the way to 36.65 points as first-place Ferris (17-1) took a five-way meet with 173.4 points.
Teammates Kim George and Filicity Frederick followed Larsen in the all-around. Amber Baines, fourth place in the all-around, led the host Indians (7-10) to second place with a season-high 157.5 points.
Mead (9-7) finished ahead of Mt. Spokane (4-12) and Lewis and Clark (1-16).
Mead’s Marki Stewart was fifth all-around.
