Cv’S Depew Hot In Stinky Sneaker Win

Bryan Depew scored a career-high 21 points and Jake Hebden hit two crucial 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as second-ranked Central Valley held off University 54-48 in a Greater Spokane boys basketball game.

The game was the Stinky Sneaker spirit game played before a standing-room crowd at U-Hi. The teams tied for the spirit award.

Depew had half of CV’s points in the first half as the Bears took a 26-20 lead. The margin was pushed to 12 after three quarters but the Titans didn’t fold.

Brandon Benefield kept the Titans close with a career-high 17 points, including 8 of 8 from the foul line.

With under 2 minutes to play, U-Hi was within three but Hebden knocked down his third 3-pointer.

Sophomore Erik Benzel hit 6 of 7 3-pointers in his first start and scored 18 points to lead the Saxons past the visiting Highlanders.

John Mietus had eight rebounds and Caycee Biggerstaff had five assists for Ferris, which made 28 of 53 shots.

Charlie Howlett nearly matched Benzel, hitting 5 of 7 3s for 18 points for Shadle.

Brett Oglesbee scored seven of his 11 points in the final 5 minutes and had six assists as the Pirates pulled away from the visiting Wildcats.

The game was tied entering the fourth quarter.

Matt Tabisz had nine rebounds for Mt. Spokane and Greg Pugh had 11 for Rogers.

The Wildcats held Sam Dempsey, the leading scorer for Rogers, to four points, but five Pirates scored between 8 and 11 points.

Justin Defour scored 14 of his career-high 25 points in the second half as the Tigers turned back the Panthers at Mead.

Mead was down seven when LC’s Jonathan Hook hit a 3-pointer in the final minute to seal the win.
