North Locust Road New Home To Dog Training Club

The Spokane Dog Training Club has begun construction of its new indoor training facility on North Locust Road.

Club officials hope to have the building ready for classes in June.

The training club offers classes in obedience, tracking, agility and other skills, including puppy preschool and puppy kindergarten. There are four sessions per year, with about 200 dogs participating in each session.

The new 60-by-100-foot facility will provide twice as much indoor training space and an expanded grassy area for the group’s outdoor classes.

“It’s exciting. It’s something a lot of clubs wish they could do,” club president Marial Willford said.

The new facility, located at 2620 N. Locust, will provide a permanent home for the group, which has more than 100 members. Currently, it rents space, month to month, in a smaller facility at 6905 E. Trent.

The building will be built to blend in with the surrounding buildings, Willford said.

It will be large enough to invite in larger audiences for indoor events and trials. The club would like to invite interested groups, particularly senior citizen groups, to view its practice shows.

The club purchased the 1-acre piece of property on North Locust four years ago.
