Spokane Funeral Company Is Sold Ball & Dodd Purchased By Industry’S World Leader

Ball & Dodd Funeral Homes of Spokane announced Friday it is being acquired by Service Corporation International, the largest operator of funeral-related services in the world.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed by Myron Krumm, president of Ball & Dodd. He said the buyout was finalized Tuesday.

Ball & Dodd employs 11 and has four locations in the area. It’s name will not change. Krumm and Larry Domrese, vice president of the funeral home, will continue to manage daily operations.

Krumm said one reason Ball & Dodd agreed to be purchased hinges on financing.

“They (Service Corporation) seem to be a company that will give us the expertise to be competitive in the Spokane market,” said Krumm.

He also said Ball & Dodd is a growing firm, which needs financial stability to meet demands.

Krumm said no immediate plans have been made for Ball & Dodd to open more funeral homes in the area.

Krumm said Ball & Dodd two years ago brought in a consulting firm that recommended the business be sold to a larger firm.

Service Corporation, based in Houston, owns some 3,900 funeral homes, cemeteries and crematoriums in 18 countries.

Ball Funeral Homes was established in Spokane and Medical Lake in 1937. It incorporated as Ball & Dodd in 1938.

In a prepared statement, Krumm said, “Ball & Dodd Funeral Homes have diligently served this community for more than 60 years, and this (new) affiliation ensures that the community’s future needs will be met.”
