It’S A Bigger And Better Business

Chuck Rehberg The Spokesman-Rev

Welcome to our new way of doing Business.

We’ve been working on our Business plan for some time, and we think you will like the improvements. Our goal is simple: to better serve all of our readers.

Here is our day-by-day Business strategy:

Sundays: A new, separate section with stories and classified ads, will focus on the workplace and job opportunities in our region. The section cover will continue to present in-depth stories on a variety of business topics. Page 3, called Working, features trends and news about our lives on the job.

Today’s Workplace, the classified advertising part of this section, starts on page 5 with ads for employment, training and business opportunities.

Daily: Weekdays and Saturday Business news pages will still be published in the main news section of the newspaper. And we will continue to publish our Saturday Weekly Investments section, which contains an expanded list of stocks and mutual funds and reports on their weekly performance. The section is available free to all subscribers who request it.

Mondays: The Monday Memo will present a calendar of key events in the coming week.

The day’s special emphasis is on new technology developments. In addition to feature articles, two new columns will report on technology.

Hot new Internet Web sites and other computer information will be presented in a column called www.you. And Online Glance will briefly report on other developments, with references to additional information on spokane.net, The Spokesman-Review’s online service.

Tuesdays: Along with the daily mix of local, state, national and international business news, the Northwest Resources column will report on activities in the agriculture, mining and timber industries.

Wednesdays: Special emphasis will be given to retail and real estate developments, with separate reports in our North Idaho and Eastern Washington editions.

Beginning this Wednesday, our daily stocks and mutual funds pages will feature a new market summary graphic that will display the day’s business activity at a glance.

Thursdays: Timely stories of special interest to business readers will be featured each week in the FYI column.

Fridays: The emphasis will be on Small Business, with our Close Up profiles of small businesses in the area and the successful people who make them work.

Saturdays: We will expand the Your Money emphasis on personal finance and consumer issues, with timely pocketbook information.

Also on Saturdays, we will add a second installment each week of the popular Business Beat column. The feature, which will continue to run on Sundays, presents news of awards and events, plus names and faces of area business people who have been promoted or placed in key new assignments. Having a second column each week will help us keep more current with the changes and other developments in the business community.

Those are the highlights of the Business plan. We have a talented staff of reporters and editors to execute it. And we have award-winning photographers, artists, graphic artists and page designers to illustrate and present the information in a compelling way.

One more thing. We also very much welcome your ideas and suggestions as we cover business news in the Inland Northwest.

Just think of yourself as one of our Business partners. Thanks for joining us.
