Mandy Lindhe scored 15 points, Kammi Cottrell scored 14 and Katy Shaw added 12 points an 16 rebounds in leading North Idaho College to a 73-58 Scenic West Athletic Conference women’s basketball win over Treasure Valley CC.

Shaw had 12 rebounds in the first half as NIC built a 46-25 lead. Her well-rounded game also included four assists and seven steals.

The Cardinals forced TVCC into 29 turnovers.

Portland 75, Gonzaga 59

Kristin Hepton scored 22 points, pulled down six rebounds and handed out four assists in leading the Pilots over the Bulldogs in a West Coast Conference game at Chiles Center.

The win let the Pilots (10-6, 2-2 in the WCC) avenge Wednesday night’s 77-65 upset loss to the Bulldogs (5-11, 1-3) in Spokane.

Hepton, who prepped at Central Valley, made nine of 19 field-goal tries and scored 16 of her points during a 23-3 Portland run that decided the issue early in the second half.

Gonzaga, which got 16 points from Holly Turner and 12 from Jessica Malone, stayed close throughout the first half and trailed 42-41 after Malone drained a 3-pointer with 15:14 left. That was when Hepton put the Pilots on her shoulders and shattered GU’s hopes of a second consecutive upset.

“Portland did a great job,” said Bulldogs coach Kellee Barney. “They showed a lot more pressure than they did on Wednesday. The second half we went through a five or six-minute stretch where we didn’t do much of anything. They got a big lead on us and we couldn’t recover.”

Whitworth 89, Whitman 57

Jamie Wakefield scored 24 points and pulled in 10 rebounds and Star Olson added 16 points in the Pirates’ lopsided win over the Missionaries at Whitworth. “When we handle pressure our offense is good, and tonight we handled the pressure. This way we don’t start trying to go 100 miles per hour,” said Pirates coach Helen Higgs, whose team improved to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in the Northwest Conference.

Whitman, losers of nine straight to Whitworth, dropped to 6-8, 2-5. The Pirates jumped in front early and coasted to a 46-29 halftime lead. Wakefield, a sophomore from Mead High, was 5 of 5 from the field in the first half.
