Students Receive Prizes For Coloring Contest

The Campbell House Blue Ribbon Centennial Committee has awarded prizes to 15 children who participated in its coloring contest. The artwork of students, kindergarten through sixth grade, will be displayed through Feb. 6 in the Cheney Cowles Museum.

First-, second- and third-place winners will receive a cash prize and a year’s membership to the museum. Honorable mention winners will receive a one-year membership.

The winners and their elementary schools are listed.

Kindergarten through second grade: first place, Logan McDermott, Midway; second, David Stratton, Madison; third, Mallory Whittaker, Garfield; honorable mention, Hallie Jo Stacker, Mullan Road, and Teagan Norton, Garfield.

Third and fourth grades: first place, Whitney Jacobson, All Saints; second, Michael Stratton, Madison; third, Emily Anne Roll, Evergreen; honorable mention: Katelyn Fiorillo, Balboa, and Lue Harbison, Wilson.

Fifth and sixth grade students: first place, Erika Horobiowski, Garfield; second, Bryan Brenzie, St. Thomas More; third, Samantha Gump, Brentwood; honorable mention, Matt Case, St. Thomas More, and Liberty Cafferty, Grant.

Audition

Spokane Children’s Theatre will hold auditions for “The Diary of Anne Frank” at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 and 25 at St. Aloysius School, 611 E. Mission.

Director Kim Roberts needs four men, three women, one teenage boy and two girls, 13 to 16 years old. For a $10 refundable deposit, auditioners can pick up a script at the theater office, 315 W. Mission, Suite 23, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information call the theater at 328-4886.

Classes

The class schedule for Corbin Art Center’s winter session, beginning Jan. 25, is available through the Spokane Parks and Recreation.

Adult classes include meditation, intermediate drawing, rubber stamping techniques, basic watercolor, basic drawing, painting in oil, botanical illustrating, beginning italic calligraphy and creative Valentine cards.

Classes for children include preschool art and science, cartooning, creative Valentine cards, and crafts.

Preregistration is required. For a complete schedule, call the center at 625-6200.

Special workshops will be offered at the Spokane Art School on Jan. 25, School District 81’s Curriculum Day.

Students in grades one through three can participate in the Young Masters workshop from 9:30-11:30 a.m.; Valentine Ceramic Platters, noon-2 p.m.; and Foil Bugs and Sgraffito Beetles, 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Students in grades four through six can participate in Valentine Ceramic Platters, 9:30-11:30 a.m.; the Young Masters workshop, noon-2 p.m.; and Rubber Stamping and Pattern Painting workshop, 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Art exhibit

The artworks of two noted Inland Northwest artists, sculptor Dr. Jerry McKellar of Colville, Wash., and painter Jim Nelson of Spokane are being shown in a special two-man show at Art Concepts on Broadway Gallery in Tacoma through Feb. 15.

Nelson was previously a demolition contractor for 30 years, while McKellar is a retired dentist.
