Aaron Sedler Ferris Year: Junior Sport: Wrestling Weight: 215

Wrestling at 215 pounds, Aaron Sedler is as good as anyone in Spokane. He’s not bad when he crosses the Washington border and moves up in class.

The Ferris High junior competed at 275 pounds (heavyweight) for tournaments in Idaho and Montana.

Last weekend in Missoula, he finished first at the Rocky Mountain Classic. In mid-December, he finished second at the Tri-State Tournament in Coeur d’Alene, his only loss of the year coming after he led 7-3.

“He ended up throwing me,” said Sedler. “I’d like to have that match over again.”

Prior to the season, Sedler’s coach, Tim Owen, said he could be as good as any 215-pounder in town.

“I felt even last year I had a good season as a sophomore,” said Sedler. “I lost seven or eight matches and three were to state champions.”

But the three-sport athlete’s season ended in the district semifinals. This year, he has built a 21-1 record by using his quickness against guys his size and those who are larger.

“Heavyweight is more of a mental game,” he said. “I try to get a quick lead. I don’t want to get underneath. I don’t want them to use their weight advantage against me.”
