North Idaho Comes Up Short In 63-62 Loss

The fast and furious finish went Colorado Northwestern’s way.
Trailing by one point, North Idaho College’s Mandy Lindhe unloaded a 3-point shot that didn’t fall with 10 seconds remaining. Although the Cardinals grabbed the rebound, Lindhe lost control of the ball with 6 seconds left and the Spartans held on for a 63-62 win Friday night in a Scenic West Athletic Conference basketball game at Rangely, Colo.
Lindhe, a 5-foot-7 sophomore, finished with a team-high 20 points. Sophomore Becki Huddle added 12 points for the Cardinals. The loss dropped NIC to 12-6, 3-5 in the Scenic West. The Spartans improved to 12-8, 4-4.

Willamette 70, Whitworth 67
Despite sophomore Jamie Wakefield’s 26 points on 6-of-18 shooting, the Pirates lost to the Bearcats in a Northwest Conference game at Salem, Ore. Wakefield, formerly of Mead, was 6 of 18 from the field and 12 of 14 from the free-throw line. Myra Slwooko finished with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Star Olson, formerly of East Valley High, chipped in with 11.
The Pirates played catch-up in the second half after falling behind 45-30 at halftime.
The Pirates visit Linfield College tonight.

Tracy Ford nailed a 3-point shot to give the Eagles a one-point lead with 3:16 remaining, but they couldn’t hang on.
Eastern’s Lyndy Burgess, a junior college transfer from Wenatchee Valley, finished with a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds, converting 7 of 10 shots. Stacie Granger and Ford scored 13 and 11, respectively.
The Eagles (6-10, 3-3) trailed by as many as 12 points at 29-17 with 5:13 left in the first half. They cut the lead to single digits early in the second half and took their first lead, 54-53, when Ford scored with 7:07 remaining.
Eastern also led, 61-60, after Ford’s 3-pointer, but MSU outscored the Eagles 7-0 down the stretch, with all of the points coming from the free-throw line. Isabel Stubbs and Serena Merrill each scored 12 for the Bobcats (11-5, 5-1).
Eastern shot 25 of 57 from the floor (43.9 percent). Montana State hit 25 of 61 shots (41 percent), hampered by its struggle from the perimeter, where the Bobcats hit just 3 of 19 3-point attempts.
Eastern travels to Montana on Sunday.
