Jury Selection Begins In Yager Murder Trial

Jury selection began Tuesday in Scott Yager’s murder trial with attorneys from both sides questioning potential jurors.

Twenty-five Kootenai County residents answered questions Tuesday about their knowledge of the case, their beliefs about the death penalty, and if they know Yager, his family or any officers involved.

Yager, 35, of Rathdrum, is charged with the premeditated, first-degree murder of Idaho State Police officer Linda Huff and committing a felony with a deadly weapon. He could face the death penalty if convicted.

The remaining two-thirds of the 74 potential jurors asked to appear Tuesday are scheduled to be questioned today. About 200 potential jurors have received a summons.

Attorneys on both sides are trying to agree on 12 jurors and four alternates. All 16 will be sequestered for the duration of the trial.

Jury selection is expected to last throughout the week. Testimony will begin Monday.
