Home Ownership In ‘98 A Record

The nation’s home ownership rate slipped a bit with the onset of colder weather during the final three months of last year, but the annual 1998 rate set a record.

A total of 69.1 million families - 66.3 percent of American households - owned their homes during 1998, the Department of Housing and Urban Development said Wednesday. That’s up from 65.7 percent in 1997 and 64 percent five years earlier.
